Next month Raymond Weil will unveil the Nabucco Cello Tourbillon, the first tourbillion movement from the 40-year-old Swiss watchmaker. Inspired by the cello, the timepiece is meant to mimic the instrument both in form and beauty. This 10-piece, limited-edition watch captures the history and passion of the label, creating not only a story worthy of the Raymond Weil name, but a collector’s piece that both classical music and horological lovers will treasure.

Founder Raymond Weil was a lover of music, naming many of the pieces in his collections after operas, instruments and musical terminology including the Parsifal, Maestro, Toccata and Nabucco collections. His grandson, Elie Bernheim, the brand’s current CEO, shares this passion, and has been a cellist from an early age. “My grandfather’s lifelong love of music combined with my own passion for the cello are the two elements that inspired us to design and develop the Nabucco Cello Tourbillon, which is intended as an expression of our brand’s imaginative approach to watch design,” said Bernheim. "The Nabucco Cello Tourbillion reflects many of our brand’s core values, notably by being entirely inspired by music and by featuring a number of haute horlogerie finishes. The result is a timepiece that is utterly unique.”

An open skeletal piece, the wearer can clearly see inside to the tourbillion heart that lies underneath. The movement, however, takes the form of the cello: the bridges mirror the form of the instrument’s f-holes, hands are in the form of cello bows and the “five lines of a musical stave are represented in the grooved bezel.” Four strings are stretched across the dial intended to give the illusion of an encapsulated instrument.

Nabucco Cello Tourbillon will be priced at $39,995. Contact Raymond Weil at 1-800-227-7712 for availability.
