Introducing the Chronograph H: A Mechanical Watch with Soul

The all-new Intra-Matic Chronograph H from Hamilton rekindles the golden age of sports watches with the bold return of a hand-wound chronograph. The Swiss manufacturer, with over 125 years of luxury watchmaking experience, brings this new watch to the market with true style and distinction. Part of the Swatch Group, the world's largest watch manufacturing and marketing conglomerate, Hamilton has continued to be a leader in innovation in the watchmaking business, with some major developments appearing in the mid-20th century that changed the world of watchmaking forever.

New in their collection of manual-wind timepieces, the watch is inspired by their popular Chronographs A and B of 1968, and carries that true ‘60s flair. The bold return of a hand-wound chronograph to their collection fits with existing designs while retaining a subtle individuality. “We were keen to launch this signature design that celebrates the fundamental principles of watchmaking inside and out,” said Hamilton CEO Vivian Stauffer.

Sized to a versatile 40mm, the watch does more than just tell time; it is made to interact with: to wind, to activate the stopwatch, to feel and see directly the analogue construct that makes it possible. As such, Hamilton worked diligently with their partners to develop a new hand-wound chronograph movement, the Hamilton caliber H-51 (developed specifically for this watch). The result features an extended power reserve of 60 hours and is housed in a slim stainless-steel case.

“Through extensive research and development, we were able to create a truly mechanical chronograph movement,” Stauffer continued. “Each interactive moment, connects the wearer to the soul of the Chronograph H.

A combination of modern technology and vintage charm, this signature timepiece celebrates the soul within watchmaking’s fundamental principles. The watch comes with either a black leather strap or mesh bracelet and is available with a traditional white dial and black sub-dials, or the reverse, a black dial and white subdials. Evoking Hamilton chronographs of the 1960s and 1970s, the super-LumiNova® accents on the black and white panda dial recall the color of aged radium and are protected by a box-style sapphire crystal reminiscent of those esteemed wristwatches.

“We have branded this watch as a ‘watch with soul’ because of the deeper emotional link we encourage the wearer to feel each time they wind the movement or use the chronograph function. It’s a watch with a story to tell,” Stauffer concludes.
