In our Best of 2014 we awarded Cara Delevingne for DKNY the best campaign of the year—mostly for the brilliant marketing strategy of combining a Cara capsule collection with her starring role in the ads. But it looks like they just kicked off the new year with an equally impressive move by casting the model for not only another season of womenswear, but by making her the new face of their men’s line as well. Yep, Delevingne is now one of the boys. It’s pretty normal to see a few girls mulling around in the background of men’s fashion campaigns, but they’re usually there to be a supporting role—either used as eye candy or to bring focus to the well-dressed stud standing front and center. In DKNY’s new men’s campaign, however, the British model is the focus of the shoot, with other suit-clad boys standing around her.
Posing with equally gorgeous models Ben Nordberg, Jackson Hale, and Sang Woo Kim on location under the Manhattan bridge, she’s taking on a total androgynous look and is definitely not there to play a supporting role. Her hair is unkempt, face devoid of makeup, and she’s got that hands-in-the-pocket, don’t give a f--- swagger stance down. Plus we’re kind of digging those platform sneakers.
