Fashion is one of those rare things that allows you to say everything without speaking a single word. Designer shoes are just a form of this unspoken sartorial communication, but it’s one so subtle that only other sneakerheads are likely to pick up on it. And it’s this understated luxury that makes tennis shoes so appealing—at least to us. Over the years with the release of exclusive collaborations, limited-edition lines and one-off collections that sell out in mere minutes, it’s easy to see how collectors can drop thousands of dollars on sneakers. But there are plenty of designer kicks that cost just as much, if not more, then pre-owned, special-edition Jordans. The only difference is you don’t have to spend months on resale sites trying to hunt down your preferred size, color and brand. Here are the most expensive kicks you can still own. None of these bad boys have sold out—yet.

Buscemi 125MM Screw Sneakers: $2,570

An homage to the ‘70s and ‘80s New York punk scene, the Buscemi 125MM Screw sneakers celebrate the change the rebels of the period brought to the fashion world. These would have been the shoes for hitting up CBGB after hours. Made of black Italian nappa calfskin and lined with vachetta calfskin, these sneakers are accessorized with individually hand-screwed gold-plated screws, a gold-plated lock and key, and the brand’s signature heel handle. The Buscemi 125MM Screw is available at Buscemi and priced at $2,570.

Fendi Monster Python Leather High-Top Sneakers: $3,200

The Fendi Monster Python Leather High-Top Sneaker is a bad-ass, fur-lined shoe with creepy yellow eyes and an attitude to match. With bright colors and a grumpy little character, this is definitely made for the man who likes to have a bit of fun with his fashion. The shoes are made of python and calf leather, and outfitted with a double tongue and spiked studs running down the back of the heel. Made in Italy, the sneaker uses dyed silver fox fur from Finland and dyed nutria fur from Argentina to give the monster his fuzz. The Fendi Monster Python Leather High-Top Sneaker is available at Neiman Marcus and priced at $3,200.

Rick Owens Faun Geobasket Sneakers: $8,512

Leave it to Rick Owens to go totally over the top even while sticking to his minimalist aesthetic and neutral palette. These SS15 Faun Geobasket shoes are made from black and white-dyed alligator leather with accents and lining in a supple calf leather. The sole is obviously rubber (they’re still sneakers!), but this shoe is totally worth the price when you start to account for designer, style and exotic leathers.
