Project Runway Season 5 Celebrity Guest Judges Fashion News: If you happen to be a fan of the fashionable television show Project Runway, then a look at the season's multitude of guest judges, past and future, from the celebrity world is sure to make you smile.
Each season features an array of bizarre challenges and even more surprises when the guest judges arrive. For the season 5 opener, Project Runway Season 1 alum, Austin Scarlett appeared to help give the judges a hand in deciding which contestants were in and who was out. Although not from the traditional world of celebrity, since his television debut, Scarlett has become a notorious face in the fashion world and the world of reality TV.
The second episode invited the contestants to go back to nature and use organic, eco-friendly fabrics and materials. The guest judge for the challenge was Natalie Portman, movie star and creator of her own line of fashionable, vegan-friendly footwear.
The third episode also featured a celebrity guest judge, actress Sandra Bernhardt, as the contestants scrambled to find inspiration for designs on the streets of New York. Although a funny lady, Sandra isn't connected to the world of fashion like the previous episode's celebrity judge Natalie Portman, although she did hold her own in the fashionable circle of judges.
The next challenge coincided with the Olympics and contestants were invited to design outfits for the Olympic contestants to wear to represent the United States. Guest judging the contest was Apolo Ohno, Olympic Winter Games champion, who knew from his 5 medals, how an Olympian dresses.
Brooke Shields, movie star and television favorite was the next celebrity judge and she invited the designers to create an outfit for her character on her hit show, Lipstick Jungle. Although not usually a fashion icon, Ms. Shields' show showcases high fashion almost as much as Sarah Jessica Parker's Sex and the City. (Incidentally, SJP was a guest judge on last season's Project Runway).
The next episode was fun as the contestants were challenged to dress up drag queens in outfits as outrageous as their personas. American's favorite drag queen, RuPaul was the guest judged, lending her expertise on drag queen style to pick a winner for the challenge.
The next celebrity judge to appear on Project Runway is a true fashion icon who has become a celebrity, thanks to her stunning designs: Diane Von Furstenberg. Ms. Von Furstenberg offered the contestants the chance to go into her fabric storage and create a look for her latest collection.
Following in the footsteps of Diane Von Furstenberg was Cynthia Rowley, a fashion designer who is a favorite with women of all ages. Using her background, Cynthia helped decide which design contestant made the perfect outfit for a new college graduate.
LL Cool J is the most recent celebrity judge to guest on this season. The near legendary hip-hop artist recently put out his own clothing collection and knows something about the long running tie between music and fashion.
With the finale coming up, rumors abound as to who will be the guest judge to declare a winner. Last year's guest judge was Posh Beckham and this year a debate is raging as to whether or not Jennifer Lopez will take her place on the runway. Jennifer has long been a fashionable celebrity, with her awe-inspiring looks on the red carpet and her own clothing collections.
Next year, Project Runway Season 6 is said to debut with Lindsay Lohan, leggings designer extraordinaire, taking her place amongst the judges.
In the meantime, fashionistas will have to wait and see what happens.
