News & Trends: Wondering what Karl Lagerfeld's latest inspiration is? It's a series of coins designed by the current head of Chanel to commemorate the birth of the original head of the elite fashion house, Gabrielle, commonly known as Coco Chanel.
To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of Coco Chanel this year Chanel's chief designer Karl Lagerfeld has had a special five euro coin minted.
Four coins have been minted (two silver and two gold) and each are a denomination of five euros as a nod to the popular Chanel No. 5 scent.
The coin features a profile of Coco Chanel with a characteristic little hat and pearls around her neck on the front and Chanel's signature quilted leather pattern on the back, along with the numeral 5. The signature pearls also decorate the circumference of the coin as well.
The coins are signed by Karl Lagerfeld and available in gold and silver versions with only a select number of them being made available: a rumored 11,099 in total, with only 99 of them being gold.
The coins are as luxurious a purchase as a Chanel handbag, being made available at upwards of 300 euros.
The coins were minted for Chanel by the French Mint and will be available exclusively in Chanel stores.
