 Celebrity Endorsements: Miu Miu, the younger line of luxury fashion house Prada, recently unveiled its newest muse, actress Katie Holmes.
The Spring/Summer 2009 collection was shown on the Paris runways, inspired by history, according to Miu Miu designer Miuccia Prada.
Prada explained, "It's an investigation of our history, of our European past."
The collection included tops, skirts, dresses and aprons in layered materials including burlap and silk. Historical notes were found in the art deco prints on the fabric of some off-shoulder dresses - sometimes tied with a twisted belt.
The old meets new concept is carried on in the new Miu Miu advertising campaign, where Katie Holmes continues the feel of a throwback to the past. With slick-backed hair, like some retro sci-fi heroine Katie mugs for the camera in some of the collection's most interesting pieces, including an unevenly pleated dress.
Innovative fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott were responsible for the edgy photo shoot where Katie appears so sleek that she is nearly unrecognizable from her usually friendly self, giving a somewhat theatrical appearance to the actress. Surrounded by straight lines, Katie appears almost alien in the wrinkled dress.
The signature look of the labels Prada and Miu Miu have been described by NY Fashion as old-world Italian luxury wrapped in forward thinking design and the new campaign certainly takes that explanation to a new level.
In the new Miu Miu ads, Katie Holmes follows in the footsteps of former Miu Miu muses including: Kim Basinger, Vanessa Paradis, Kirsten Dunst and Lindsay Lohan.
