News & Trends: Chanel fans should be on the lookout for the latest biopic of legendary designer Coco Chanel, due out for US audiences later this year, entitled Coco avant Chanel (Coco before Chanel).
Starring Audrey Tatou, Coco avant Chanel is directed by French filmmaker Anne Fontaine, of Augustin, Dry Cleaning, In His Hands, and The Girl from Monaco. Based on the novel by Edmonde Charles-Roux's titled "Chanel and Her World," the screenplay for the film is written by Anne Fontaine and Camille Fontaine with script consultant Christopher Hampton.
Focusing the part of Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel's life that the fashion icon preferred to remain hidden, the film explores Coco's early life; from being stuck in an orphanage to her rise to fame as a couturier.
Drawing inspiration from the closets of her many lovers, Chanel transformed from a poor worker in a tailor's shop into the pioneer of sportswear separates and the beginning of the legend that would begin in her own lifetime.
Helping Audrey Tatou with her transformation into the legendary icon is the current head of fashion design for Chanel, Karl Lagerfield. The fashion mogul created costumes specifically for the Warner Brothers film, based on the classic Chanel suit in the timeless black and white color palette Coco favored.
If you don't like fashion, enjoy period pieces or subtitles, this film is clearly not for you (and as a JustLuxe Luxury Fashion Insider, I think you're crazy), but for the rest of us, Coco avant Chanel looks to be an exciting look into the world of Chanel.
