Watchmaker Vacheron Constantin Makes a Timely Charity Contribution

News & Trends: Sometimes doing it only once is simply not enough. That is Vacheron Constantin's position when raising monies to benefit vital medical research is the task at hand. Spurred on by the 50,000 euros its one-off Quai de l'Ile model raised for the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy at the Only Watch 2009 auction, the Geneva-based watchmaker will make 100 additional Quai de l'Ile watches available to increase its contribution to this noble cause. The goal is to raise and then donate 100,000 Swiss francs.

Only Watch is a super prestigious biennial auction that invites prominent watchmakers to donate one-off models to raise funds for the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy. Mr. Luc Pettavino, the CEO of the Monaco Yacht Show, is the chief administrator of this heralded event. Sadly, the auction is of personal relevance to Mr. Pettavino, as his son has Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Mr. Juan-Carlos Torres, CEO of Vacheron Constantin, stated that his company wants to do something in addition to the Only Watch auction. "Driven by a desire to transcend the gift we had made to the auction, we simply asked ourselves how we could open up a new and more lasting channel of funding on behalf of the Monaco Association Against Muscular Dystrophy. We have therefore decided to launch the development and production of a special series of 100 numbered watches dedicated to the association, the sale of which will enable us to make a further direct contribution of 100,000 Swiss francs. We sincerely hope this initiative will pave the way for other ideas of a similar nature," said Mr. Torres.

The 100 mechanical self-winding, 2,460-movement timepieces with cases made in tantalum and palladium, will bear the distinguished Hallmark of Geneva stamp. The numbered and engraved wristwatches will be sold worldwide via Vacheron Constantin's network of 100 fine jewelers that offer the Quai de l'Ile collection.
