News & Trends: Madonna plans to be at the grand opening of the launching her first fitness center in Mexico City at the end of November. The first of many Hard Candy Fitness Center will opens its doors on the Monday following theThanksgiving weekend. The 30,000 square-foot complex is located in the upscale Bosques de las Lomas area.
Madonna and business partners, her manager Guy Oseary and New Evolution Ventures, have plans in place for Hard Candy Fitness Centers to open 10 additional locations in Russia, Brazil, Argentina, and throughout Europe and Asia. Mexico City is among the top 10 richest cities in the world, ranking eighth overall in 2008. Other sites for the fitness center will be in similar settings.
Like a virgin enterprise, the Hard Candy Fitness Center is not. Mark Mastrov, the chairman of New Evolution Ventures, is the founder of 24 Hour Fitness. Mr. Mastrov is a living legend in the fitness industry, having built more than 420 fitness centers in 16 countries since 1983. In 2005, 24 Hour Fitness was acquired in a leveraged buyout for $1.6 billion by Forstmann Little & Company.
"Our goal is to create an environment inspired by Madonna's vision and high standards of what the ideal gym would be. Hard Candy Fitness will be a reflection of Madonna's point of view and will reflect her input on every detail including music space, light and other design cues. Madonna's touch will be everywhere," said Mr. Mastrov.
Exclusive fitness programs will be an integral part of the lifestyle-fitness emporium's uniqueness. There will be no lacking of equipment for body building and aerobic exercises. Equipment by PreCor, Hoist, Free Motion, Nautilus, Hammer Strength, StarTrac, AbCoaster, and TRX will be available throughout the facility. The clubhouse-size locker rooms will be lavishly appointed and feature direct access to sauna and steam rooms. The setup will inched a bike studio, a mind-body studio, and a climbing wall.
