Fashion & Style: Since Lyman and Joseph Bloomingdale first opened the doors to the luxury department store in 1872, Bloomingdale's has blossomed into becoming more than just a store; it's become a lifestyle, "Like No Other Store in the World."

This Fall Season, America's only nationwide, full-line, upscale department store is offering innovative fashions inspired by decades of American films.

The new Ready to Wear fashions for Fall 2009 focus on classic films, especially those of the 1980s. Designers draw inspiration from disco dresses to day-glo accessories and fingerless gloves found in films like Desperately Seeking Susan starring Madonna and the sharp-shouldered jackets of films Body Doubl0e with Melanie Griffith are revisited in collections from Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs, Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg.

"Movies offer a compelling fantasy world where anything is possible," says Stephanie Solomon, Fashion Director for ready-to-wear at Bloomingdale's. "Film has a way of captivating and inspiring its audience, including most notably, classic American designers such as Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren. These designers looked to the trends and cultural influences of the 1980s and reinterpreted its finest moments to create a modern look for fall 2009."

Also making their way onto the racks are classic film-inspired looks from the 1920s through 1960s.

Button-down shirts nipped at the waist as shown by Ralph Lauren and reminiscent of the menswear inspired looks popularized by Katherine Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn's little black dress from Breakfast at Tiffany's offers timeless appeal, while the Russian-inspired prints and furs of Doctor Zhivago fill Chanel's Fall '09 collection.

Menswear collections were also inspired by strong leading men on the big screen. New designers Simon Spurr, Daiki Suzuki and Yigal Azrouël join favorite American fashion with designers such as Ralph Lauren, John Varvatos and Michael Kors on the men's floor at Bloomie's.

Look for classic trends mixed with rough and tumble looks inspired by films including Hitchcock's impeccably dressed Cary Grant in North by Northwest, and the less tamed stars of Gangs of New York and Fargo.

This Fall, Bloomingdale's goes Hollywood on every level.
