Styles are always changing but we've found a few items that have timeless
qualities. From handbags to jewelry and dresses to makeup, we've
got you covered.
Gotta Have-it Bag
The Onna
Ehrlich Renee Teal Chic Classic hobo ($435) in Italian leather
is laser-cut to evoke an African Landscape - combining two hot
fall styles (the hobo bag and ethnic prints). The entire collection
plays with the boundaries between the traditional and modern worlds.
A portion of the proceeds from the collection will be donated
to Amnesty
International and AIDS Projects. Halle
Berry and singer Rihanna are fans.
Almost sweet enough to eat
La
Bijou Belle Jewelry has succulent colors and bon-bon
like shapes that make it look good enough to eat (we advise
against it, then you won't have cute jewelry to wear!).
The "candy" line comes already beautifully packaged like
a box of yummy sweets. The jewelry itself is already a hit
with fashionistas, stylists, TV hosts, and celebrities like Lisa
Rinna and Gabrielle Union, who
wore La
Bijou Belle jewelry during LA fashion week and to the Kentucky
Derby. This jewelry is created from vintage Lucite and semi-precious
stones and can be found at hot LA boutiques including Belle
Gray and Miriam
Claudette Jewelry in Sunset Plaza.
More vintage gems
It's all about taking the old and putting a new spin on it. Leanna
Lin, a Los Angeles-based designer who produces eclectic, hand beaded
jewelry and hair-pins, has created a line of accessories mixing vintage
and contemporary beads. Produced in limited quantities, Lin uses Czech
glass and semi-precious stones for an playful and inspired look. Nadine
Valasquez from "My Name Is Earl" bought Leanna Lin
earrings from ZuzuNova on
Melrose.
Hair like Glass
Shiny as glass, that is. Stylist and makeup artist Richard
Glass is known in Hollywood circles as a makeover magician. Having
provided image consulting services for the Hollywood elite,
Mr. Glass now creates magic for the general public at his salon, Glass
Hair Design Studio. Trained by the industry's best instructors from
well-recognizable brands such as Sassoon, Redken,
Swaskorf, Joico,
and KMS,
his own new hair care product, "GLASS" was
launched this past spring. If you can't make it to his studio,
pick up a bottle and create a few tricks of your own at home.
Good things come in threes
Long-known for its must-have, subtly-hued tops, dresses, skirts,
sweaters and pants for women and men, Three
Dots fans include Sienna Miller, Matt
Dillon, Katie Holmes and Julia
Roberts. Yuchin Mao of Helmut Lang just took the reigns
as Creative Director at Three
Dots, taking the brand in an updated, modern direction.
We like the Black
Jacquard Split Neck Cap Sleeve dress. The Three
Dots collection is available at Fred Segal Couture, Satine and Hilary
Rush in L.A.; Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's nationwide.
Flagship boutique opened on Melrose Ave. in April 2006.
Safe and pretty makeup
Organic makeup options have been around for years, but now
there's a company offering natural, chemical-free cosmetics
and a striking color palette. Afterglow
Cosmetics is the brainchild of safe cosmetics advocate,
Kristin Adams. Luxury mineral makeup line Afterglow
Cosmetics is rated the top makeup line for safety by the Environmental
Working Group. Afterglow
Cosmetics contain no parabens, petroleum derived ingredients
or synthetic dyes. "The product is comprised
of pure inert minerals which allow us to keep them preservative
free." says Kristin,
which also makes it perfect for those with sensitive skin or
those allergic to other makeup lines. Additionally, the minerals
serve as a natural sunscreen, blocking both UVA and UVB rays. Afterglow kicks
it up a notch by offering a vibrant color palette in 21 intensely
pigmented eye shadow shades.
