Sleeping With the Stars Bed | Los Cabos, MexicoOne of the most romantic and elegant hotels in Los Cabos is Las Ventanas al Paraiso. They're taking the concept of "glamping" to a whole new level with their "Sleeping with the Stars" experience. Obviously they're not talking about the Hollywood version-although beaucoup Hollywood celebs frequent the property. This is an opportunity to appreciate real celestial beings, while overnighting in king-sized, rooftop luxury bliss.
Beach Bed | Riviera Maya, MexicoIf there's one thing more indulgent than a mid-day catnap in the sun, it's a mid-day catnap where you can see and hear the waves, stretch out on your own personal daybed, and get a frosty beverage delivered with a wave of your hand. The El Dorado Seaside Suites in the Riviera Maya offers this fully pampered, fully inclusive experience. Even though you can't spend the night out there, the setting's enough to make us daytime sleepers.
African Safari Bed | Xudum BotswanaFurther to the theme of beds for the daytime, this ultra-chic African cabana on the savannah serves a similar purpose as pool cabanas in Vegas: It provides a safe and comfortable spot from which to view the local wildlife. In Vegas, that means pin-up models and reality stars in bikinis. At Xudum Botswana, you'll spot more elegant creatures: antelope, big cats and perhaps a rhino or two.
Star Gazing Bed | Mahua Kothi, IndiaGuests of Mahua Kothi can star gaze at a luxury safari lodge neighboring a tiger reserve. Operated by Taj Safaris, this is a very special, very authentic India experience. It may not be for everyone, but it's certainly guaranteed to make couples cuddle up to each other, enjoy the stunning night sky, exotic air, and the thrill of being completely surrounded by the wild.
"Told U So" | Molori DesignsIt's the perfect combination of chic and cheeky-a luxury yacht conceived and designed by a luxe travel impresario who not only sells the lifestyle, but lives it. The cabins on his new luxury charter yacht, not-so-modestly named "Told U So," are elegant in every detail. The Owner's Suite (pictured) features an en-suite screening room and adjacent six-person Jacuzzi to complement the comfortable, chic furnishings.
Treetop Artisan Bed | Lake PlacidGuests of Lake Placid Lodge in the Adirondack Mountains will remember the moment they wake up that they've escaped the big city. An ode to nature and "arts and crafts" period design, this handcrafted framework is a little bit elfish, a little bit farm-country, and very much "Welcome to the mountains."
Rock Star Suite | Hard Rock, MacauMany people have touted Macau as the East's version of Vegas...and though it's really not that similar, you'd never know that from peeking inside the Hard Rock Macau-especially the Rock Star Suites. Design elements like this round bed with crushed velvet pillows and a chandelier above are practically subtle compared to the leopard print fabrics and over-the-top artwork splashed everywhere around the showcase suites.
Gothic Suite | Chanler at Cliff WalkFor those who appreciate a stylized throwback, the Chanler at Cliff Walk offers many variations on an Olde England theme. We recommend the Gothic Room, with its wrought iron bed draped with a sheer canopy, for a night of debauchery in high style. The Renaissance Room is pretty but rather wedding cakey and the English Tudor Room is very...Tudors. Although that, too, could be fun.
Under the Sea Bed | Pocatello, IdahoTravelers from far and wide hail the Black Swan Inn in Pocatello, Idaho for its fantastically decorated theme suites; from the Egyptian, which features antiquity-inspired statues and King Tut friezes in gold, to the Sea Cave, which earned a spot in this slideshow by being the only bed we've ever seen with an oyster motif that includes a pearl. Just when it seemed like the Black Swan couldn't possibly climb higher in the list of all-time quirkiest Americana landmarks, along came a certain movie starring Natalie Portman...
Pool Villa Bed | Phuket, ThailandThe Banyan Tree is the very epitome of exotic luxury; in a very sleek way, but with nothing held back or downplayed. This double pool villa sums up the experience better than 10,000 words could. It's flawless, serene and so perfect you wouldn't even dare to sleep on it until you'd circled awhile and admired it from every angle.
Arrabelle at Vail Square | A Rock ResortFinally, the bed you'd want to come home to every night...if you could ever recreate the experience at home. The beds in the Arrabelle are elevated slightly above normal height, and you sink into them slowly, like a cherry in frosting. The rooms even smell sweet (though the hotel swears there's no fragrance). Piano music plays softly from the speakers, pillows surround you, the fire blazes merrily-everything perfectly orchestrated for maximum comfort.
