Luxury Space Travel: The business goal for the Galactic Suite Space Resort literally is out of this world. This is neither puffery nor a cliché mimicking a prepositional phrase. Instead it is the organization's straightforward futuristic vision, as plans are in place for this privately funded space venture to be part of the hospitality industry by 2012. The long-term objective of the GSSR is to have the largest chain of space resorts of any company headquartered on Planet Earth. Although the project is still being formulated, Japanese and UAE cash sources are very interested in funding this project.
Travelers seeking a three-day outer space voyage will receive astronaut training on the Caribbean Islands for 18 weeks before liftoff. Upon the completion of the Caribbean phase of the expedition, space-bound tourists will board a spaceship and shuttle to the Galactic Suite Space Resort for a 72-hour stay. The resort will orbit the third rock from the sun at 30,000 km/hour, which equates to faster than 18, 641 mph, at an altitude of 300 miles. The resort will circle Earth 15 times daily or every 90 minutes, enabling guests to observe a sunrise and a sunset every 45 minutes from their suites. The launch site will be constructed in Europe.
Pioneering space tourists will need to be acclimated to a gravity-free environ to safely move around their cabins. Guests also will take part in scientific experiments, as Galactic Suite Ltd. has been in contact with various scientific organizations interest in using the outer-limits orbiters in experiments involving zero gravity obtain data for research studies.
The Barcelona-based outfit, which defines itself as a private space-tourism company, has enlisted the assistance of four companies to ensure a successful liftoff. Architects, space engineers, designers, and business planners comprise the fleet of companies working in conjunction to bring this project to fruition. The ultimate goal is to have a vine-like chain of inner-connected space resorts.
Do keep in mind that this will not be a cheap vacation. Booking a three-day stay at the Galactic Suite Space Resort will cost around $4.1 million per person. There currently are no discounts for double occupancy or group rates.
When completed, the GSSR may prompt the formation of a new deluxe hotel rating association called Luxury Hotels Orbiting the World.
