Christie's just had, what they're calling, a "moment in art history" at their more recent art auction where they sold Andy Warhol's 1963 Triple Elvis artwork for $81.9M (£51.9M). According to BBC News, the iconic portrait of Elvis Presley (which is one of the 22 versions made using ink and silver paint) was sold to an anonymous bidder over the phone. The same auction also sold Warhol's 1966 Marlon Brando piece titled Four Marlons for almost $70M (£44.3M), as well as lots by Cy Twombly and Willen de Kooning. Overall, the auction house pulled in $852.9M (£540M), breaking their record for art sales of this kind.
