Glen Keane was a Disney animator for 38 years and during his time with the company, gave us such iconic characters as Ariel, the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan and Rapunzel. Named a Disney Legend in 2013 for his lifetime contribution to the world of animation, it’s safe to say that Keane is basically an illustrating genius, making it fitting that will be speaking at this year’s Future of StoryTelling Summit in October. To tease the upcoming event, Future of StoryTelling released a video starring Keane as he sketches some of his most beloved characters while speaking about his passion and love for the art form. Not only is the video touching because he takes us through his process at the desk (I definitely teared up), it’s also stunning to see him do so in virtual reality. Keane is fascinating to watch as he gracefully (and borderline musically) brings the art of traditional animation into the digital age by creating the Beast and Ariel in a 3D space, that allows him to interact with his characters in a way he never had been able to before.
