TEFAF: World’s Largest Art Show Returns

Arts & Culture: The world’s largest art show is back and bigger than ever in Maastricht, Netherlands. TEFAF Maastricht, also known as the Maastricht Fair, is a multiple-day art and antique show with the world’s most desirable art and collectibles on display. It is the world’s largest fine art and antique show. Last year’s show featured more than $1 billion of items for sale with more than 67,000 attendees.

According to ArtInfo, first-time exhibitor Hammer Galleries of New York will display a rare over-size portrait of first U.S president George Washington (1822) by Gilbert Stuart priced at $7.5 million. The gallery also will display Amedeo Modigliani’s Jeune fille assise, les chaveux dénoués, which is priced considerably higher. Additionally, this year’s show will have a new section, TEFAF on Paper, which will present works on paper.

TEFAF, which is short for The European Fine Art Fair, turns Maastricht’s convention center into a 300,000-square-foot art and antique emporium. The show runs from March 12 to 21, 2010.
