Picasso’s Works & Romances on Display

Arts & Culture: Talk about your tiger in the woods, indeed! If Pablo Picasso were among us today, tabloid journalists would make careers out of following his off-canvas romantic antics. There may have even been a reality TV show, “Posing for Pablo,” as many of the beautiful women who served as models for Picasso’s paintings also were linked with the artist romantically.

There is an auction upcoming in May by Christie’s that features a 1932-originated work by Picasso, “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust.” The painting, a large-scale portrait, has been privately owned since 1951. The model in the painting, Marie-Therese Walter, also was Picasso’s mistress. It was reported by Reuters that Christie’s estimates its sale price to range from $70 to $90 million.

The Marlborough Gallery currently has an exhibition with more than 200 works that focus on women in Picasso’s prints. Picasso is turning up in galleries quite frequently this year with major shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
