Luxury Adventures: Imagine getting behind the wheel and driving five awesome sports cars in one day on a racetrack while receiving direction from certified professional racecar drivers. Although it sounds like a fantasy, Supercar Life arranges these exclusive events year round. Each event involves 15 drivers, five supercars, and three professional drivers. Participants get to drive each car, which includes a Ferrari F430, a Lamborghini Gallardo, an Aston Martin DB9, a Mercedes-Benz AMG SL65, and a Porsche Turbo 997, for 20 adrenaline-surging minutes around the track. That is 100 minutes of track time. On average, each driver goes about 30 laps in each car. Do the math, and it sums to one spine-tingling adventurous day.
The event, which is aptly named a Supercar Shootout, is actually a two-day affair. An introductory dinner occurs on the eve of the "Shootout," where guests and pro drivers meet, mingle, and get revved up. The next morning begins with a meeting on safety issues and an overview of the 1.6-mile track. Participants are then divided into three groups of five drivers. Each group is assigned a professional driver, who takes each participant out on the track, providing valuable insight on the handling of the vehicles. All drivers get to practice the slalom and to do a zero-to-60 mph test.
When lunchtime is over, things get a tad more racy. Directly ahead, a pro driver — in an identical vehicle— leads a participant to ensure 100-percent safety and to show them the right line. The objective, besides unadulterated sinful pleasure, is to teach participants how to maximize their driving skills while taking each vehicle to its limit. Additional track time also is available with the pros driving and guests riding shotgun.
The cost of this day is $4,990 per person. Supercar Shootouts take place at the BeaveRun Motorsports Complex, which is located in Western Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. Visit the company's Web site for dates and details on upcoming events.
