Classic Cars Up for Bid

Upscale Auctions: Art Astor's namesake museum, the Astor Classics Event Center, has displayed one of the most extensive collections of drivable vintage and classic automobiles and communications devices in the world. Mr. Art Astor, a venerable veteran of the Southern California broadcasting industry for more than 50 years, is the owner of two grandiose collections of vintage automobiles and communications memorabilia. Numerous items of both collections are set to go to be sold at an upcoming auction by RM Auctions.

More than 250 automobiles and 1,100 lots of memorabilia will be presented at this no-reserve auction in Anaheim, California, June 27-29. Each automobile has a history or a story that makes it special. There is the restored 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I that was owned by Hollywood's first cowboy movie star Tom Mix. A 1940 Cadillac Series 75 Formal Sedan built for Howard Hughes and a one-off 1948 Hudson limousine are additional stellar vehicles of pedigree. There is even a microphone that was once owned by Elvis Presley in the goodies on the block.

Ian Kelleher, managing director of RM Auctions said, "The Astor Collection is perhaps one of the most diverse, highly original and extremely well maintained collections of its kind ever offered to the public," said Kelleher. "Those who have been fortunate to visit the museum over the years can attest to the significance and importance of this great American collection" he added.

Fortunately, this auction stems from a downsizing and not the closing of the Astor Classics Event Center. Astor's earnest efforts toward preserving and restoring classic and vintage automobiles are indeed noteworthy.

RM Auctions is a leader in prestigious auctions. The company's events attract worldwide interest and continue to generate interest from major publications and television networks, including ESPN, CNN, MSNBC, HDTV, TLC/Discovery, and the BBC.
