 Luxury Supercars: America's foremost sports car is now a superstar supercar. The 2009 Corvette ZR1, with its 6.2-liter, 620-plus-horsepower V-8 LS9 engine, is the first production Corvette with a top speed greater than 200 mph. It is built on the same predominately aluminum chassis as the Corvette Z06 and features a similar independent front-and rear-suspension system. However, the ZR1's wider front and rear tires have prompted alterations for the better. The Vette's power to weight distribution ratio is reported to be better than the Porsche 911 GT2, the Lamborghini LP640, and the Ferarri 599.
A stronger six-speed manual transmission supports the ZR1's LS9 engine, with a twin-disc clutch that provides superior clamping power with an easy touch.
The ZR1's raised all-carbon-fiber hood has a transparent polycarbonate window in order to provide a view of the top of the engine's intercooler. "LS9 Supercharged" is embossed on the left and right sides of it.
The exterior features of the car, such as the widened carbon-fiber front fenders, the dual lower vents, and the full-width rear spoiler, were designed to enhance high-speed stability and handling.
According to several reliable sources, the base price of the Corvette is expected to be around $100,000.
