 Luxury Car Survey Results: There is no better place to seek facts on products and services than Consumer Reports. The world's largest independent consumer-product-testing organization is 100-percent transparent. CR buys its products anonymously and does not accept test samples from manufacturers. Consumer Reports also conducts owner-satisfaction surveys.
The company recently gathered info from more than 424,000 car owners that covered various automobile types and whether owners would buy the same vehicle they own again. Of course, the cars that caught our eye were the luxury or high-end models. Any auto on the "yes" list had to have at least 80 percent of its owners willing to buy it twice.
In the luxury-cars classification, the Lexus LS and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, with V-8 engines, finished first and second, respectively. The four-wheel drive BMW 335i sedan, the Cadillac CTS, and the rear-wheel drive BMW 335i finished one through three in the upscale-cars category.
Two Chevrolet Corvettes, the Z06 and the standard Corvette, finished first and second for roadsters, while the Honda S2000, Mazda MX-5, Audi TT and Porsche Boxster fleshed out the top-six picks. The Corvette Z06 had the highest rating for high-end cars; the Toyota Prius edged it out by one point for the highest rating of any classification. The big three in sports/sporty cars were the non-turbo Porsche 911, the Mini Cooper, and the Porsche Cayman.
