 Luxury Car Auctions: Switzerland's storied Gstaad is a top winter destination for the chic ski set, but this month brings an added attraction: dozens of rare, classic and vintage Ferraris offered up by London-based auction house Bonhams. Headlining the sale, slated for the famed Palace Hotel on Dec. 20, are two historically important competition Ferraris from the estate of the late Antoine Midy, a well-known French collector.
Topping the list is a 1955 121 LM Spyder by Scaglietti raced by the late Phil Hill (the only American to have won the Formula One World Championship) in both the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours and the Venezuela Grand Prix. The Spyder is estimated at being worth $4 - $5.5 million. From the same collection comes a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Spyder. Estimated at $2.4 million - $3.2 million and driven by Piero Scottiwhich, the car won 2nd in class and finished 3rd overall in the 1954 Mille Miglia.
In addition there are several other highly-prized Ferraris on offer. The list includes a 1965 275 GTB Berlinetta with coachwork by Pininfarina / Scaglietti (above), estimated at $800,000 $950,000; and an ex-Tour Auto and Tour de Corse 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB Group IV Michelotto, one of only 11 produced, estimated at $770,000 - $850,000.
