Luxury Motorcycles: On April 23rd, a one-of-a-kind Harley-Davidson Cross Bones motorcycle customized by British artist Damien Hirst will be auctioned off for the Project Angel Food charity in California. The motorbike, painted with Hirsts signature rainbow-hued spin design, is being described as a totally unique piece of sculpture. Hirsts spin paintings are created using centrifugal force as the paint is poured. For the motorcycle, the technique was applied to individual Harley-Davidson parts and then assembled. The retro-inspired Cross Bones is the first model in Harleys new Dark Custom line.
Bidding for the unique piece begins at $100,000 and could potentially fetch millions. Last year a spin painting Hirst created for the Product Red charity sold for $1.8 million. The world auction record for a motorcycle is $520,000, for a 1915 Cyclone. The Hirst Harley is part of Angel Art, an event and benefit auction celebrating the 20th anniversary of Project Angel Food, which provides daily meals for people homebound or disabled by HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses. The event is taking place at the Creative Artists Agency in Los Angeles, and committee members include Naomi Watts, Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire.
