 Luxury Cars: It was announced by Land Rover this morning that it will begin production of its LRX concept and will be offered for sale with a Range Rover badge. In an interview with Autocar Land Rover CEO Phil Popham said that if they can produce the intent of the LRX concept it has all the characteristics of the Range Rover. It is the hope of the carmaker that the production car will be as near to the concept's design and engineering as possible.The change of badge points to a five-door final production vehicle, although there are indications that it will come with a taller roof line. The smaller Range Rover will have a platform common with the Land Rover Freelander and is expected to borrow much of its hardware. It will also be the greenest Land Rover up to this time. The carmaker expects to have an emission rating lesser than 150g/km at its opening and in the course of its lifetime a rating of 120g/km and 60mpg with a hybrid. A two-wheel-drive variant is unlikely though since the Land Rover has confirmed that it will come only in FWDs to keep the Land Rover image.
