Luxury Cars: The 2007 Lexus GS 450h is the first hybrid vehicle
that simultaneously evokes the passions of luxury
lovers and environmentalist. Although it is expected
to be available in the spring of 2006, it may be a bit
later. The New York Auto Show is the site of its U.S.
debut in March 2006. Unlike its practical
ecological-oriented predecessors, this car offers
high-end performance along with better gas mileage and
low emissions.
The 450h features rear-wheel drive for smooth handling
and a 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a high-output,
permanent magnet electric motor that makes it perform
like a 4.5 liter V-8. The unique technological
coupling produces an efficient engine output that
exceeds 300 horsepower with zero-to 60 mph in less
than six seconds. Fuel economy numbers for the
luxuriant hybrid are expected to be in the high 20s,
meaning it will come in certified as an ultra-low
emission vehicle. These are very impressive numbers
for a car that features 18-inch, light alloy wheels.
The Lexus GS 450h has all the niceties found in the
standard GS, and the price is expected to be around
$60,000.
