Luxury Cars: In September of 1929, the Phantom gave way to the Phantom II. The engine had changed through modifications to the cylinder head and increased horsepower output to approximately 120 bhp. This is an American Roll Royce in such that the chassis was shipped from England to Springfield, Massachusetts where Brewster & Co's coachmen assembled the Croydon convertible coupe body with the left hand side driver position. One of only seven ever constructed, this Croydon was given pride of place at the 1934 New York Auto Show.
This fabulous and rare motorcar from the Estate of discerning collector Robert Stormont has been in the same ownership for approximately 55 years, acquired in 1949 from the lucky first owner, Dr. C. Bramwell, a Chicago dentist. A verified two-owner car, this spectacular Phantom II is an example of Brewster coachwork at its very best. Used as the family car for many years to run errands and retrieve groceries until a multiyear restoration was commenced in 1977. It graduated to splendor and pageantry there after, carrying friends and family on special occasions, appearing in weddings and parades. This refined champion is ready for a Sunday drive and up for auction by Bonhams and Butterfields on May 6th at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, Massachusetts. |
