The World Cruise Ship offers Apartment Living
See the world without leaving home; floating community puts the world at your fingertips.
You could live vicariously through others by watching the Travel Channel or you could experience it all for yourself as a resident or guest on board The World, the only private luxury community at sea. The World offers even more personalized attention than the most prestigious commercial cruise ships and visits more ports of call and stays longer at each destination than any traditional cruise line.
The 43,000 gross ton vessel holds up to 657 people, of which only about 200 are residents and guests. Can you get anything your heart desires? Well, pretty much. With a price range of $1.3m-$7.52m, these are the most pampered tourists in the world. Even short-term guests pay a hefty bill for the privilege. Nightly rates start at $1,500 with a minimum stay of six nights; however the price becomes subjective when you consider the benefits. Craving veal picatta or filet mignon? You're sure to find whatever your heart desires at one of The World's many restaurants, delis or snack bars.
Not in the mood for dining out? The chefs will come to you or you can cook your own creations in your apartment kitchen or whip something up in one of the professional galleys on board. Not only do The World's inhabits dine on the finest fare, they are never wanton for entertainment and activities, whether at sea or on land. In 2004 The World visited 136 ports in 54 countries on five continents, with emphasis on Greece and Mediterranean coastal cities. While in port, guests can participate in organized shore excursions or do as they please for two and a half days (the average time at each destination).
At sea, you can take in a live show or movie, kick back in one of the lounges or bars; take a cooking or photography class, perfect your golf game with The World's golf simulator; challenge a fellow guest to a game of tennis on the full-size tennis court or relax in the spa or fit in a workout. You could always take it easy in your own immaculately designed private quarters. You have a choice between four design themes appointed by one of four of the world's best interior designers: Traditional Comfort by Nina Campbell (London); Classic European by J.P. Molyneux (New York); Classic Contemporary by Luciano di Pilla (Rome); and the clean lines of Yran & Storbraaten's Maritime design (Norway). The ship itself was designed by the Yran & Storbraaten team, whose accomplishments include the design of the Silver Cloud and Silver Wind, among many others.
For sale are 106 apartments, 19 studio apartments and 40 studios, with square footage starting at 675 for studios and maxing out at 3,242 for a three bedroom apartment with optional jet pool. With the exception of studios, which have more limited amenities, The World's residential accommodations include fully-equipped kitchens, living room, veranda and all furniture and audio/video equipment. If you must engage in business on board, you will find everything you need in the Business Center, including secretarial services.
