Miami's Casa Casuarina: Then and Now
Luxury Residence Clubs: Although it just opened in 2005, the Casa Casuarina is regarded as one of the most distinguished membership-by-invitation-only private clubs in the
U.S. The Moroccan flair throughout the complex draws upon an historical link that goes back to 1510. The
Casa Casuarina, which was built in 1930, is a replica of the residence of Christopher Columbus' son, Diego.
The structure contains actual original bricks from the storied residence in its cornerstone. Diego's palatial
pad was called the Alcazar de Colon.
There are 10 immaculately furnished suites behind the walls of the Casa Casuarina for its members and their
guests. Each has it's own unique thematic layout. Condé Nast Europe cited the club's concierge/butler
services as being the "Best Concierge/Butler Service." Members are treated lavishly with private beach
cabanas, a private observatory, a cigar room and a spa and fitness facility. World-renowned chef Wolfgang Birk, formerly of Miami's Four-Star, Four-Diamond Wyndham Grand Bay Hotel and Bice Restaurant, oversee the club's culinary needs.
The Miami landmark, which is located on the beach, is surrounded by high stonewalls and ornate gates. It
represents the city's past and present most poignantly. The Sunday's "Decadent Pool Parties" are now a weekly event on the social calendar of must-dos
for elite global socialites.
