In honor of Vegetarian Day and Vegetarian Awareness Month, OpenTable announced their choices for the 52 best restaurants for non-meat eaters in America. Sourced from over five million diner reviews, the expansive list covers a lot of ground, including restaurants that helped launch the eating movement and newer names that have brought plant-based gourmet cuisine into the spotlight.
"Whether these restaurants serve vegan, vegetarian, or vegetarian-friendly fare, fruits and vegetables are given the star treatment at each establishment," says Caroline Potter, Chief Dining Officer at OpenTable. "From omnivores seeking to indulge in the best of the season's natural bounty to diners who prefer a sustainable, meatless diet, eaters of every appetite can discover delicious plant-based dining experiences at any of these outstanding spots."
Of the 52 names highlighted, 21 are vegan eateries, 10 are vegetarian and the remaining 21 are veggie-friendly. California reigns with 15 winning establishments, including San Diego’s new Café Gratitude and Crossroads in Los Angeles. New York comes in second place with 13 names on the list, like their organic Candle 79, and Pennsylvania gets six.
