Penfolds Unveils Inaugural California Collection

More than twenty years ago, Penfolds, one of Australia’s most beloved wineries, began an exploration of the bountiful soils of California with an ambition to create a range of wines unrestricted by vine, border, or continent. That ambition is now realized with the unveiling of four new ultra-luxe California wines that represent multi-regional winemaking utilizing select grapes from the Napa Valley, one of the world’s most premium winemaking regions. The inaugural California Collection includes:

·        2018 Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $700)

·        2018 Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $149)

·        2018 Bin 704 Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $70)

·        2018 Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz (SRP $50)

The flagship 2018 Quantum Bin 98 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2018 Bin 149 Cabernet Sauvignon, are referred to as ‘Wines of the World,’ blended across continents and hemispheres. Made with grapes predominantly from Napa Valley cabernet parcels, each wine also contains a significant addition of flagship-worthy shiraz (Quantum) and cabernet (Bin 149) of the highest quality from South Australia.

Since 1844, Penfolds commitment to quality has been defined by a ‘House Style,’ an approach that entails venturing across borders to find the best grapes from the finest regions. Penfolds’ uncompromising commitment to quality and experimentation in creating great wines has passed through generations of Penfolds winemakers, from the secret and experimental bottling of Grange in 1951 and the unbroken line of vintages of what is now arguably Australia’s best-known wine.

“A quality-first approach underpins this inaugural California Collection release, led by 2018 Quantum,” said Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago. “This blend assembles parcels of prized cabernet sauvignon from some of the Napa Valley’s best vineyards and pedigreed shiraz from South Australia. This is a first for Penfolds. The wines made in California pay respect to California terroir, yet two things remain consistent…the red Penfolds stamp and Penfolds winemaking technique. While we have the Californian sun above and soil beneath, everything in between is Penfolds.”

Penfolds California Collection is available at www.penfolds.com and select fine wine stores globally.
