Best Foods in the World and Where to Eat Them

Food & Spirits: Killian Fox of The Observer has compiled a list of The 50 Best Foods in the World and Where to Eat Them with the help of various culinary professionals. Here's a look at five of the foods that made the list:

Hamburgers
Hamburgers are apparently best at a small Greenwich Village bistro called Little Owl. "This sandwich is so copiously juicy, so rich with precious bodily fluids," says Josh Ozersky, author of The Hamburger: A History, "that it practically haemorrhages onto the plate. But the meat, which is a signature blend from New York's virtuoso hamburger maker Pat La Frieda, is perfectly paired with a bun of uniquely moist and yielding character. It's by far the best cheeseburger in this or any other city."

Macaroons
Macaroons from the Ladurée bakery in Paris. You can find them at shops around the world, and even online, but the two shells of meringue-like pastry held together by creamy ganache filling still taste best coming from the original source.

Roast Chicken
Roast chicken from L'Ami Louis in Paris is the best in the world. The café is the perfect place to experience clichéd Parisian life, complete with perfectly roasted chicken.

Milkshakes
Plenty of Los Angeles-area eateries and restaurants serve Fosselman's freshly made ice cream, but the original Fosselman's is the best place to enjoy a thick and creamy milkshake.

Steak
A lot of restaurants claim steak as their specialty, but the Steak el Carpicho at El Capricho in Spain has been called perfect by Time magazine and American Vogue's exacting food writer Jeffrey Steingarten said it was "probably the greatest steak I've ever eaten."
