Virtual Display Technology: Imagine being able to zoom in and zoom out on a sight with your own eye as if you were adjusting the lens of a camera, or seeing a virtual display only visible to you generated from your eyes. That is the picture you will soon see through contact lens with built-in electronic circuits and lights. These lenses are not yet available at the local optical store, but its day of availability is sooner than you may think due to the tedious work being done by the progressive engineers at the University of Washington.
Engineers at the university have developed a contact lens that is biologically safe yet capable of storing such extraordinary technological gadgetry. The research is made possible with funding from the National Science Foundation and the Technology Gap Innovation from the University of Washington.
The virtual-display technology deployed in the development of these futuristic contact lenses has practical application in other areas as well. It is amazing that the circuitry and lights on the lens are positioned so that the wearer is not distracted.
