Luxury Electronics: Ultimately, these handheld ebook readers are going to put a lot of book bags into early retirement. The PRS-600 Sony Reader Edition is already making life a lot easier for avid readers on the go by enabling them to turn on and tune in on a moment's notice. Reading on a train, in a plane, from a car, or at break time has never been easier.

Its out-of-the-box readiness makes it a sight sore for eyes and a relief on the back and shoulders. Being able to carry around more than 300 books in a personal library weighing 10.1 ounces is a heavenly feature for those who enjoy reading from multiple sources. The SRE is PC and Mac compatible and supports ePub and PDF, including Adobe, PDF, Microsoft Word, and BBeB.

The SRE also plays unsecured MP3s and AAC audio files. The eBook Store from Sony compares well with most brick-and-mortars, and there are up to 1 million free public-domain titles available through Goggle Books.

The heavy-duty ebook reader is both light and compact, measuring 6.9 inches x 4.8 inches with a thickness of 0.4 inches. It features a 6-inch reading screen with an 8-level gray scale and a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. It lasts up to 2 weeks or 7,500 continuous page turns per battery charge.

The PRS-600 SRE comes in black, silver and red. It has 10 noteworthy accessories such as a cover with an over-the-case light, battery charger for the car, and several cover options. Additional memory is available too. It is offered direct online and priced just under $300.
