Technology giant Microsoft, who led the pack with motion technology, will be getting a run for their money with the introduction of a new gesture-based piece of equipment from Leap Motion. This ultimate electronic, christened The Leap, is about the size of a pack of gum and can be plugged into a computer’s USB connection to create a four-cubic-foot workspace. Within this area, The Leap allows micro-movements to be charted and stored in its memory. Leap Motion is claiming that its new product can simultaneously track all ten fingers’ movements within 1/100 of a millimeter, making it 200 times more accurate than anything currently on the market.
Leap Motion says the software will be able to be used in a variety of appliances, from refrigerators to cell phones. In addition, The Leap’s settings will have the capability to be customized, and options such as linking multiple devices to create larger “work spaces” are also a possibility. Leap Motion is in the process of creating compatible software and platforms to support the new technology. The Leap is now available for pre-order at a price of only $69.99.
