Universal remotes have been around for a while now, but we challenge you to find one as cool as the Smart Remote from Sevenhugs. The French startup unveiled their tiny gadget at CES last week, which they’re calling the “world’s first contextual remote.” About the same size as the original Apple TV remote, the device uses “indoor localization technology” and boasts “dynamic adaptation of display and control.” It basically enables you to control any smart device in your home by just pointing at it, apparently bypassing the multi-step routines you have to go through with apps and other devices.

“By 2019, the smart home market is expected to reach $28 billion, with more than 69 million homes connected worldwide,” said Simon Tchedikian, CEO and co-founder, Sevenhugs in a press release. “Yet, the smart home technology fragmentation remains an obstacle with every connected object needing to be controlled by a dedicated smartphone application or a remote control. With the Smart Remote, you only need one solution to control everything in your home with just one touch.”

With a super sleek design that is touch-based, the Smart Remote has an open SDK framework, which is what enables it to connect with a long list of products. For instance, you can immediately sync it with your Nest thermostat, Sonos speakers and Philips Hue lights. When you’re not using it, simply put it on its charging base (which can be mounted on a wall).

The Smart Remote will reportedly cost around $200 and will be available for pre-order soon, with deliveries set for September.
