You Have to See This Insanely Cool House That Combines Rugged Cliffside Design and Futuristic Minimalism

In the best and perhaps most beautiful example of mankind’s desire to return to Mother Nature, Open Platform for Architecture has designed the conceptual Casa Brutale. Not only is the home completely submerged into a cliff, with only the pool and staircase visible from above, it would also make for a pretty amazing James Bond hideout—we can picture that swimming shot filmed from below already.

Meant as a “poetic homage to pure Brutalism,” the dream home was envisioned as a way to serve the owner while respecting the environment. Brutalist architecture was a pretty big movement from the 1950s to mid-1970s, which refers to the use of raw concrete. Encased by the earth, Casa Brutale is a “study of aesthetics, structure, function and engineering.”

Its unique position within a cliff gives it amazing views and the pool above offers interesting plays of light throughout the home. When looking at the concept photos, the home’s interior sometimes looks like the entire structure is submerged under water thanks to light filtering through the water above.

Accents of black-coated steel and warm brown/red aged wood can be seen throughout the house, which is accessed by ascending 50 stairs or taking a hidden elevator. The décor is left modern and minimal, with a concrete cast dining table and benches. This is definitely a home you wouldn’t want to over decorate, after all.

Though Casa Brutale is only a concept at the moment, OPA is looking for someone to either buy the project or sponsor it so they can make it a reality. They predict that it could cost up to €1 million (which is almost $2 million USD) and while their first instinct is to build it somewhere on a Greek island, they’re open to other locations.
