Having your own private island is great, but it suffers from a customization issue, since the land tends to be preexisting. Amillarah Private Islands wants to solve that by creating floating private islands and with the help of Christie’s International Real Estate, they’re actually making it a reality.
According to Christie’s, the residences will be tailor-made and designed by Dutch architect (and Amillarah co-founder) Koen Olthuis, who Time Magazine named as one of the world’s most influential people in 2007. The portable homes will be 100 percent self-sustainable, have no impact on the environment and due to their floating status, will be safe from sea level fluctuations and give sea life new habitat opportunities underneath the islands.
The company assures that the man-made islands are built to last for at least 100 years and by teaming up with the Ocean Futures Society, they have plenty of resources and research regarding artificial reefs and habitats.
If interested in your own, all you have to do is contact Christie’s and let them know what you want. You have complete freedom over the size, shape and style, as well as its home base, whether that be off the coast of New York or Dubai. Of course, with projects as enormous as this, prices aren't fixed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
