Faces to Watch at Bremont
Luxury Watches: Precise enough to be worn by pilots; timeless enough to be passed through the generations; Bremont's timepieces are the ones to watch.
Since its launch mid-2007, Bremont has been causing quite a stir in the world of horology. The brainchild of brothers Nicholas and Giles English, the brand specializes in durable precision timepieces. However, it's the story of Bremont's origin that's a testament to the skill and craftsmanship that goes into producing a limited collection of watches of this standard.
The English's fascination with all things mechanical began as children. Accompanying their father, Euan, to his workshop, they often experimented with spare parts as they watched him build everything from planes to musical instruments and clocks. Euan, an award-winning RAF aerobatic pilot, also taught the boys to fly and sparked their life-long interest in historic planes.
Tragically in 1995, Nicholas and his father were involved in a flying accident that resulted in Euan's death. Although the incident didn't deter the brothers from flying, it spurred them to reassess their lives and embark on pursuing something that really mattered to them.
Devoted to wearing their father's watches, Nicholas and Giles believed that every watch had a story to tell. So, a few years after his death, they set about launching a collection of timepieces that could be passed down through the generations and were accurate enough to be worn by pilots and adventurers.
Their brand is curiously named after a French WII pilot, Antoine Bremont, who the brothers met by chance after a forced landing in the man's field in France. Discovering that he shared their passion for aviation and timepieces, his name seemed the obvious choice.
Manufactured in Bienne,
Switzerland, each watch is Chronometer tested before leaving the workshop and is assessed by experts in the field. Combining excellent mechanics, functionality and sleek design, each piece is suited to both the dizzying heights of Mount Everest and the boardroom. The watch cases use Trip-Tick construction: the three separate parts consist of a hardened steel bezel containing sapphire crystal; a PVD- treated middle barrel which can be made from different materials, or colors; and a sapphire crystal back. A unique feature, the cases and buckles are treated for hardness and scratch resistance with B-EBE2000 technology - a process also used on the turbine blades of jet engines.
Seen on the wrists of the likes of Ewan McGreggor, Charley Boorman and Bear Gryllis, Bremont's timepieces are building up quite a reputation for their accuracy and expert design -giving the leviathans of the watch world a run for their money.
