2009 Super Bowl Rings: Apparently, gaudy jewelry rules and pro jocks love big rocks! Are these things actually rings or sparkling branding irons? When it comes to professional sports teams celebrating their championship year with commemorative rings, the NFL is in a league of its own.

The 2009 Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the only team to win the Super Bowl six times, recently received its self-designed super-size championship ring at a ceremony held at the East Club Lounge at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The 2009 Super Bowl ring of the Pittsburgh Steelers is black and gold, weighs 3.7 ounces, and has 63 diamonds on a black background. The 63 diamonds add up to a total of 3.61 carats. The ring contains six large brilliant-cut diamonds to commemorate the team?s six Super Bowl-winning seasons. Additionally, there are seven diamonds at the tips of the ring for the team being conference champions seven times, and seven more to incorporate the team?s 14 division titles into the design.

The face of the 14-karat gold ring contains three stones of red, blue, and yellow that forms the Steelers's hypocycloid-shape logo. One side of the ring notes the final score, 27-23, of the game. The other side is personalized with the owner's name, the Steelers' helmet logo, the NFL's logo, and the jersey number of the player. Super Bowl championship rings are given to team members, coaches, owners, and key staff members of the organization.

The ring for the winners of Super Bowl XLIII is so large it looks more like a broach than a bracelet. It is nearly twice the size of the ring the Steelers' received when they won the 2006 Super Bowl.
