Designer Humidors: Debonair designer David Chu, who was named creative director of Tumi last year, is upping the chic quotient in his latest offering for the luxe luggage line. Chu has produced an elegant and luxurious ebony humidor and watch chest in limited editions, a first for Tumi. Hand carved in Makassar ebony, the humidor is lined in cedar wood and crafted for storing the finest cigars, at $2,000. The ebony watch chest is made to hold exclusive timepieces, is lined in suede and costs $1,800.
Both are designed as elegant indulgences with a masculine sensibility. In keeping with our heritage of providing the best cases and bags for travel, these elegant, luxurious ebony chests provide Tumi customers not only with a statement piece to be displayed and admired in the home, but help in protecting their personal possessions, Chu says. The limited edition pieces will be available in select Tumi stores.
Since his appointment Chu, who founded Nautica and runs his own bespoke mens tailoring business in New Yorks Gramercy Park, has introduced a number of natty high-end luggage lines for Tumi, increasing the brands prestige and profile exponentially.
