Luxury Surfboards: London luxury goods firm Alfred Dunhill is continuing its line of limited edition sporting goods with its latest offering, a surfboard. While that might seem out of keeping with the storied company best known for beautiful tailoring and ultra-refined gentlemens accessories, Dunhill notes that their ethos of functional luxury can have many applications. Designed for Dunhill by the acclaimed European surfboard company Pukas in conjunction with surfing legend Jed Noll, the 9 ft. board is constructed from lightweight but high-density polyurethane foam with a superior resin soaked fiberglass hard outer surface, minimizing drag on the waves.
Decorated with the choice of two iconic Dunhill designs, the Bulldog or the Tweenie Devil, only 10 of the exclusive boards will be offered for sale at the Alfred Dunhill flagships in London, Tokyo and Shanghai for about $3,000. Based in the surfing region of Basque in Spain, Pukas have built a strong reputation since the 1970s, becoming the main centre of surfboard design and production in Europe. The world's most skilled board shapers visit the Pukas factory including Noll who specializes in longboards. The surfboard follows in Dunhills tradition of partnering with the worlds finest craftsmen of sporting goods, as seen in the limited edition teak and carbon fiber skis created for Dunhill by French firm Speciale.
