Gourmet Dog Food: A Perfect Pooch

Pets: Three weeks ago I had an epiphany filled with guilt: how could I be savoring the freshest produce, the best organic milk, and the tastiest hormone free meats while Susie, my 5 year old spunky poodle, was eating the same canned dog food day in and day out? Not that I thought Susie should be tableside with me at the Michelin star restaurants I’m fortunate to frequent. I’ve just been more aware of what I eat and how great I feel. Therefore, perhaps Susie could be healthier and live longer with better food.

Apparently, I’m not the only dog owner who has had this thought. A stroll down the dog food isle or a Google search for “dog food” will show anyone the plethora of pooch cuisine available. With so many options-canned, dried, raw, organic, “hormone free!,” “vitamins added!”-I decided to dig up some research and ask a few dog care experts what was best.

I came across a line of dog food by My Perfect Pet, a small but growing company started by a passionate dog owner in California. Unlike “raw” dog foods, which have been surrounded by controversy, My Perfect Pet’s food is lightly cooked and frozen immediately. All My Perfect Pet’s ingredients are FDA/USDA certified, meaning I, a human, could eat it because the quality is human grade. (As it turns out, most canned and dry dog foods are over processed, poor quality and hardly possess a natural ounce of anything.)

Susie really loves My Perfect Pet’s “Boomer’s Blend.” I note that she doesn’t leave a lick left whereas anything I dished out from a can was approached nonchalantly. I’m yet to see to if her coat grows shiner or if she keeps her sleek form, but I must say she seems, well, more perfect.

We have been giving our husky my perfect pet. She LOVES it which is weird because she was such a finnicky eater before. With her old"health food" from Petco she was always 5-10 lbs overweight. Now the vet said she looks GREAT. She is happy, healthy and beautiful. I love this brand. Keep with it, the price is worth it for our dogs!
