Luxury Clubs: Drive 495 is a fitness facility that gears its programs exclusively to golfers seeking
to improve their game. Incoming members receive a 3-D analysis of their swing, and then personal-training regimens are designed to elevate their performance.
The 15,000 square-foot complex located in the Soho district of Manhattan is split in to two floors. The first floor features the standard fitness equipment
one expects to find in an upscale gym. Free-weights, weight machines and various aerobic-exercise apparatuses, such as elliptical trainers, treadmills,
and stationary pedaling machines are positioned throughout the pristine workout facility along with a café and numerous flat-screen televisions. However, upon entering the second floor, it is clear that Drive
495 is not the typical 24-hour fitness center.
Drive 495's upper floor is all about improving its members' golf game. The virtual driving ranges consist of three hitting stations and golf simulators. There also are putting areas. Members can experience the feel of teeing off at the finest championship level golf courses of the world. Three full-time golf pros are available, and the majority of personal trainers are recognized experts of the fitness industry. Corporate events, such as virtual tournaments or swing parties, also can be arranged at Drive 495.
Brothers Joe and Don Saladino are the founders of the golf gym. Joe is in charge of the golfers while Dan manages the activities of the personal trainers.
Various renowned media sources have recently touted the pioneering concept of the Saladino brothers. The July/August 2006 issue of Travel + Leisure Golf magazine reported that memberships are limited to 500 members to ensure optimal service, and that annual dues are $5,000.
Even in NYC, golfing is a year-round activity for members of Drive 495.
