2007 Koenigsegg CCX: How "Swede" It Is!

Exotic Car Review: In 2005 we covered this amazing vehicle from the point of view of someone riding shotgun, such as a girlfriend, a wife, or in other words, not the driver! Yes, it is attractive, safe, and even luxurious enough to accommodate the queen of Sweden herself. But what is most important about Sweden's Koenigsegg CCX is that it is one of the fastest and powerful cars ever put on the streets. The thrill of the frills is sweet, but definitely secondary for the speed junkies these cars are meant to please. So, let's give the 2007 Koenigsegg CCX the props it deserves as an asphalt-melting, four-wheel god that has earned the respect of the fast and the furious automakers of both Germany and Italy. Until the arrival of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, the Koenigsegg CCR was the fastest production car ever made at 241 mph (388 Km/h). The 2007 CCX is the U.S. version of the heralded CCR, and, yes, it is faster.

Since 1996, Koenigsegg's vehicles remain ever-evolving works in progress. The CCX retains much of the patented design put into its predecessors, as the steadfast objective of "Special K" is to achieve ultimate aerodynamics. The changes to the CCX include a new front bumper and a scoop on the front bonnet, which brings in fresh air for the car's occupants. There also are new air vents behind the front wheels that remove air from the cockpit. Additional headroom has been added to better accommodate taller drivers, and the carbon-fiber seats are now fully padded on the front and have a tilting backrest. The new side skirts on the rocker panels expand the underbody, resulting in better down force, which makes the CCX steadier when driven at higher speeds. It also is a tad longer to comply with U.S. rear impact regulations.

The 2007 CCX can do a standing quarter mile in 9.9 seconds, and it tops out at 146 mph. It goes from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.2 seconds, and its maximum speed exceeds 245 mph. The vehicle's lightness is attributable to the body and chassis being made of pre-impregnated carbon fiber that is reinforced with a Kevlar-and-aluminum honeycomb. It is amazing that the CCX's engine now runs on 91-octane and meets California's stringent emissions standards. Extensive rework to emissions-related areas was required. The engine has new cylinder heads, smaller injectors, new camshafts, and a lot more.

Although the 2007 CCX is now among the most powerful street-legal vehicles ever built, it is predicted that the race to be the faster production car ever built is not over. It may very well be a title that Koenigsegg and Bugatti vie to retain for years to come. Rest assured that either vehicle in 10 seconds or less could get a driver a serious citation from the law. Speed responsibly.

Las Vegas' Exotic Cars at Caesars Palace is the exclusive seller of the Koenigsegg CCX in the U.S. The dealership is located in the Forum Shops of Caesars Palace.
