Luxury Vehicle Accessories: For its nationwide safety campaign, the United Arab Emirates has a unique approach - the Fashionable Seatbelt campaign.
To be launched after Ramadan, the campaign seeks to invite designers to submit concepts for the seatbelts. Seatbelts could then be covered with images of the national flag, sports logos and logos of fashion houses like Gucci. They also plan that in the future, car owners will pick out the car and color of the seatbelt at the same time.
Figures from the Health Authority Abu Dhabi report that only 11% of Emiratis wear their seatbelts. As expected, the campaign would have detractors who are saying that the government should focus instead on instilling the fear of tickets in the drivers. Some think the plan is interesting but that Gucci and other luxury brands will seek to protect their intellectual property.
