Luxury Autos: It's undeniable. There's a stigma about going solo. Remember the prom fiasco? Now that you've entered adulthood, the thought of entering a restaurant and announcing, "Table for one", brings you to your knees. What is it about going solo that instills such panic in otherwise confident grown-ups? Possibly the fear of ridicule without backup? At some point we have to accept that some things must be done alone.
Henrik Fisker, the former design director at Ford Motor's Aston Martin subsidiary, decided it was time to leave the nest when he started his own car company, Fisker Coachbuild. A risky move to leave such a cushy job to enter one of the world's most competitive and expensive industries on his own. But even at 42 Fisker has already designed such classics as Aston's DB9, BMW's Z8 roadster and the Ford Shelby GR-1 prototype.
Fisker is known for his innovative vision and the bold designs under the Fisker Coachbuild show his best effort to date. Appropriately described as crosses between BMWs and Aston Martins, Fisker's super fast cars feature dramatic touches such as grilles that resemble airplane wings.
The Fisker Coachbuild Tramonto goes into production this spring, and the Latigo CS goes into production during the third quarter of 2006. The two-seat Tramonto will have 610 hp and a top speed of 202 mph. The Latigo CS will have 550 hp. Pricing is not yet available.
