Automotive News: No doubt that the 18 design students of London’s Royal College of Art who participated in the Bentleys of the Future program, a partnership between school and automaker, put their career options in overdrive. However, it is apparent that Bentley came out winners as well in recruiting the best designers of the future for its design team.
The Bentleys of the Future program placed the 18 students with the automaker’s design group over the past few months. The second phase selects four finalists from the class who will stay on for an additional six months at the Crewe factory. The students are using design software by Exa, whose PowerFLOW software has been used in the development of various high-end supercars and concept cars by Bentley and others.
Could one of the four finalists be the designing dynamo behind Bentley’s next flagship vehicle? As it has been since the company’s beginnings, it is hard to see past the current flagship model, such as the reigning top car, the Bentley Mulsanne. It is a good problem.
