For over 25 years, CH marine has been a leader in building custom yachts. At our Shelter Island location, our team of shipwrights design and create each one of our boats in exacting detail. From the finest teak available, to the equipment and the choice of diesel engines, every aspect of each yacht is configured to your specifications. We produce pleasure boats that are meticulously constructed and beautifully detailed.
The 38' Shelter Island Runabout has no equal in terms of both style and agility. Her proven hull design handles the seas with confidence while the Yanmar diesels sip fuel at a miserly average of 2.5 to 3 nautical miles per gallon. Compared to her peers there is no other boat that can match the Runabout's smooth ride and breathtaking performance. How does a top speed of 48 mph sound?
For the same great pedigree but in a smaller package our 30' Shelter Island Nomad will get you there and back. This yacht is designed to provide a quick, stable platform for fishing, scuba diving and family outings. For those who want versatility the Nomad offers a unique opening transom. Nicknamed the "Tailgate," a large portion of the transom hinges down to become a swim platform providing easy on and off access for an inflatable, mopeds, a wheelchair or divers. Powered by twin inboard Yanmar diesel engines with a draft of merely 20", the Nomad performs for both the fisherman and for family outings. She can cruise easily at 42 mph or for a thrill punch the throttles forward and feel the twin engines propel this beautiful boat to 48 mph.
The building process for each Runabout and Nomad begins with the owner choosing from a wide array of options, electronics, seating arrangements, colors and upholstery fabrics. The hulls for both boats are laid up with Kevlar skins and vinylester resin. Using Corecell foam to add stiffness while reducing weight we vacuum bag each one to ensure a complete bond of the materials.
Along with the interior cabinetry comes the plumbing and wiring done to ABYC standards. After the deck is on our team of craftsmen install the teak trim, windshield and optional mast, which will all be followed up with at least 12 coats of the finest tung oil varnish.
Custom stainless steel deck hardware fills in where the available selection of pre-made pieces falls short of our standards. Down below, the eggshell white bulkheads are nicely trimmed with hand rubbed and varnished teak. Teak faced drawers and paneled doors compliment the trim.
