Celebrity Real Estate: The once-owned house of Chicago's most notorious O G of the 20th century, Al "Scarface" Capone, is now on the market according to Zillow.com. The house, which was reported in January that it would be listed by early spring, is a two-flat residence in a working-class neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. Capone bought the house for $5,500 in 1923.
While the house is considered to be overpriced at $450,000, when compared to similar properties listed in the area selling for less than $230,000, the current owner and the listing agent feel that the dwelling's value is significantly enhanced by the notoriety of its infamous occupant and will attract the "right buyer."
The two-story, 98-year-old brownstone masonry residence has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and 14 rooms total. The Cook County Assessor's Office indicates the multi-residence flat has 2,820 square feet of living space, excluding the basement, and an estimated market value of $179,663.
The listing agent for this unique property is Patrice Brazil of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage-Hyde Park office. For more information, check out the online listing or call (773) 451-1200.
